From corruption to training up a leader

Jacob had quite the interesting life. After stealing his older brother's birthright and blessing (thanks to his mom's scheming), he ran away and worked for an uncle for fourteen years - just to be able to marry the love of his life. What goes around, comes around, Jacob...

We know that children learn from their parents both good and bad traits, whether or not they are Godly or culturally acceptable. This family didn’t seem to care about the impact of their decisions on each other. I find it so encouraging that God chose this imperfect family to be the "first family." God knew all their failings, and allowed them to happen. He even used those failings to impact future generations, and furthering His plan. Ponder this a moment...

Jacob's misdeeds caused him to run away. While under Laban’s deceptive thumb, he learned important business skills. These same skills:
  - would have been taught to his sons, namely Joseph (whom he loved most)
  - helped him succeed in spite of horrible trials (after sold into slavery by brothers),
  - enabled him to be ready to save Egyptians and Israelites from extinction!

Abba God, You’re amazing! Your faithfulness is huge. Your creative ability and strength to carry out Your will to bless others through me, in spite of my “mess,” is AWE-INSPIRING. How encouraged I am when I consider these truths:
  - You meet me where I am.
  - You teach me – through Scripture and life.
  - You always accept me, the same way You love & accept Jesus.
  - You mold me into the aspect(s) of Jesus' image You intend to exhibit through me.
Even though I wish You would change everything negative about me, I'll take encouragement from Jacob and Joseph's story. Give me eyes to see Your lovingkindness – and grace – in all matters, even when You choose not to change a “weakness” in my life. It’s all about You anyway, not me. In Jesus’ name, and for Your glory.
